Some information on common treatments that we practise.
SMT is probably the most common/well known form of treatment that is associated with a chiropractor and is responsible for the 'audible pop' or 'crack'. The aim of SMT is to reinstate normal joint function and movement, reduce local inflammation and to relieve pain.
In spinal manipulation, the practitioner uses their hands to apply a controlled, high velocity, low amplitude (HVLA) thrust to a specific joint.
In some cases where SMT isn't deemed the ideal form of treatment, spinal mobilisation may be used by your practitioner which involves using less forceful thrusts and more stretching to reinstate mobility into the specific targeted joints.
